Estate Worker / Horse Person (House included)- Nr Cranworth, Norfolk RR1814
Position Available
Full time, live in, experienced Estate Worker / Horse Person required for a small, privately owned estate near Cranworth, Norfolk. The Estate Worker will be required to run the estate (alongside other staff members) which consists of a large family home, handful of estate properties, top class equestrian facilities and horses. There are other, long standing staff members on site so this role will be to support them and cover days off.
The person must be loyal and trustworthy with previous experience in the same or similar field of work.
Hours:
Full time hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota system.
This role will ultimately suit someone who can turn their hand to most things ‘outside’ and equine related including:
- General property maintenance and tidiness.
- General Estate maintenance -fixing fence rails, gates or posts.
- Tractor driving- bringing in bales of hay or pushing up muck heap.
- Fertilising, rolling, topping paddocks.
- Harrowing and rolling canter track and arena.
- Animal care (dogs and horses).
- Clearing gutters and general repair work.
- Use of chainsaw, backpack sprayer, strimmer, lawn mower, quad bike, hedge cutter etc.
- Basic DIY and dealing with any issues on estate buildings and cottages.
- Driving errands and security.
- Vermin control.
- General painting and repair work.
- Manage contractors (ring plumbers, electricians, IT specialists, CCTV).
- Managing tenants – answer queries and arrange for any works.
- Ensure everything works and is clean and tidy all year round.
- Integrate with other staff, including 1 full time groom, 2 part time helpers, 1 part time gardener.
- Be flexible and happy to help with the horses (putting on the walker, holding for the vet/farrier, turning them out in the field, rugging up, feeding etc as and when necessary).
- Paddock / yard maintenance.
- Salt the yard in the winter, sort frozen taps, buckets etc.
The Person:
- Must have worked in a similar role previously.
- Must have experience with horses (spotting signs of injury, illness, changing rugs, skipping out, feeding, turning in and out of the field/horse walker).
- Must be competent using tractors, trailers and have their spray and chainsaw certificates.
- Must have excellent English and communication skills and be capable of using WhatsApp to liaise with estate owners who work overseas a lot of the time.
- 2 well behaved dogs maximum welcome.
- Due to the nature of the role, the hours, the accommodation and the facilities this would not suit someone who has a young family sadly and would be better suited to a single person, couple or a small family whose children are grown up and have fled the nest.
This would suit a highly organised and motivated person who takes great pride in their work. The principals spend a significant amount of time working overseas so it is really important that the person can confidently run things at home in their absence, dealing with all issues, big or small. This is a live in position and would suit someone who wants to make it their main home.
As the estate has other staff members, it is crucial that the Estate Worker is friendly, approachable and nice to be around.
- Excellent package on offer for the right person.
- Fantastic, on site accommodation available (3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house)
Wonderful rural location with top class, immaculate facilities.
