Full Time experienced Travelling Head Groom required for private eventing yard located between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket (closer to Newmarket).
The rider who competes from Novice to 5*, nationally and internationally will require a groom who can work to a very high standard at home and when away at events. Someone with an background/interest in eventing would be preferred, however experience with dressage or show jumpers will also be considered as long as the successful person is willing and eager to learn the requirements. This is a fabulous opportunity for someone to be part of this successful young team.
This is a very hands on position and will include all working as a team on the yard, handling the competition horses on the ground and generally keeping the yard running efficiently, safely with great attention to the horses welfare.
There is self contained accommodation available and a competitive salary offered to the successful person who has previously worked with competition horses.
The Position:
- All yard duties to a high standard
- Clipping, plaiting, trimming etc for exceptional turnout
- Handling a variety of fit horses on the ground
- Preparing horses for the rider – tacking up etc
- Lunging and long reining
- Preparing the lorry for travel
- Happy to follow instructions but also be able to use their own initiative
- Looking out for injury and illness
- Liaising with Vet, farrier, feed merchant etc
- Making sure all supplies of feed, hay, supplements are kept fully stocked
The Person:
- Reliable, enthusiastic with the best possible work ethic
- A good team player with an easy to get along with personality
- A car driver with own transport
- HGV driver
- Confident and capable handling horses on the ground-studding up at events, bandaging, cooling off etc.
- Experienced with travelling horses in theUK and Europe
- Experienced with lunging, long reining etc
- Able to turn horses out to a high standard – clipping, plaiting etc
- Able to work to the highest standard and really take a pride in their work
- Genuinely love working with horses
A partner who is employed elsewhere would be welcome and also a well behaved pet.
