We are looking for an experienced Estate Worker / Groom couple who are capable of running a private mini estate with top class equestrian facilities and horses.
The couple must be loyal and trustworthy with previous experience in the same or similar role.
This would suit two highly organised and motivated people who take great pride in their work. The principals spend a significant amount of time working overseas so it is really important that the couple can confidently run things at home in their absence, dealing with all issues, big or small.
As the estate has other staff members, it is crucial that the couple are friendly, approachable and nice to be around.
Estate Work responsibilities:
Full time, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota system:
- Estate Maintenance -fixing fence rails, gates or posts
- Using tractor to bring in hay bales or push up muck heap
- Fertilise / roll paddocks
- Use arena and canter track harrows and rollers
- Gardening- mowing , weeding, leaf clearing, strimming, spraying, use of chainsaw, clearing gutters
- Manage contractors (ring plumbers, electricians, IT specialists, CCTV)
- General property maintenance and tidiness, basic DIY (bit of a Jack of all trades)
- Manage tenants – answer queries and arrange for any works
- Ensure everything works and is clean and tidy all year round
- Pest / vermin control
- Animal care (dogs and horses)
- Integrate with other staff, including 1 full time groom, 2 part time helpers, 1 part time gardener
- It would be a real advantage and preferred if the person held a basic tractor licence, chainsaw licence and sprayer licence
Groom responsibilities:
Full time including evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota system
- Sole charge and assisting current full time groom
- Light weight rider to help exercise fit, top class competition horses (preferred but not essential, can be a non-riding role)
- Bring horses in and out
- Feed, rug up
- Manage vets, physio, farrier appointments
- Use horse walker and all usual yard and paddock maintenance (mucking out, poo picking, grooming, sweeping yard)
- Housekeeping – cleaning, ironing, shopping/ general errands
- Salt the yard in the winter, sort frozen taps, buckets
The couple:
- Must have worked in a similar role previously
- Must have worked together before as a couple
- Must have excellent English and communication skills and be capable of using WhatsApp to liaise with estate owners who work overseas a lot of the time
- 2 well behaved dogs maximum welcome
- Due to the nature of the role, the hours, the accommodation and the facilities this would not suit a couple who have a young family
- Must be self starters
