Full Time experienced Housekeeper/Cook required to work 6 months from April 2024 maintaining a wonderful manor house on a private Island within the Shetland Isles.
This is a fabulous opportunity for someone looking to embrace a unique lifestyle in one of the most breathtaking locations in the far north of Scotland, approx 25 miles from the Island of Lerwick.
The island is owned by a family and there are also other staff in residence, so although this is a very remote location there will be people around (including builders). That said this position would not suit someone who does not like their own company or who likes to have amenities close by.
The Position:-
- Keeping the late 19th century “Baronial” House clean and tidy
- Cooking all meals for the owner and guests
- Making beds for family and guests
- Carrying out all laundry and ironing
- Ensuring the house is clean, warm and welcoming to all visitors
- Helping to develop a menu for the island with input on the food being grown in the gardens and greenhouses.
- To be part of a long term project, with the possibility of the role being extended.
The Person:-
- Reliable, trustworthy and energetic
- Polite and easy to get along with
- Experienced with all aspects of housework within a large country house
- Adventurous, fit and active with a love of the great outdoors
- Able to fit in with a small team and willing to learn and teach
- A good cook who can prepare healthy meals from scratch using fresh seasonal ingredients. Someone who can produce delicious vegetarian meals when the guests are in residence.
- A car driver
- A nature lover who would love the wildlife the island has to offer, such as puffins, seals, Shetland Ponies, sheep etc
- Must be happy with their own company.
There is a cottage provided close to the main house and an excellent salary offered to the successful person. Fully checkable references will be required.
A well behaved dog would be welcome.
