Experienced Catering Manager required to help deliver the School’s aims and objectives by ensuring the provision of an efficient and effective delivery of all school internal events and catering service, with attractive, healthy, varied meals for students, staff and visitors.

Hours: 

Term time: 11am -19.30pm Monday – Friday
7.30am – 16.00pm (Alternate Saturdays – total 17)
Fridays off when working on a Saturday

Out of Term Time: 19 x Cleaning days 9.45am – 14.30pm
4 Weeks during the Summer Lettings; Includes 2 weeks of day shifts
& 2 weeks of evenings/weekend shifts (Friday off).

Summer lets: Average 28 hours per week

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head, Director of Finance and Operations in devising and implementing appropriate policies and strategies to
    maximise usage of the catering service, and to ensure that it contributes to the school’s aims and objectives.
  • Event support, organise and oversee all catering at functions and events
  • Regularly meet/liaise with all relevant staff throughout the school including the staff member presenting the event, the Estate Manager, Network Manager, Head’s PA and marketing staff to ensure clearly communicated function setup and promotion requirements.
  • Arrange appropriate catering staff required to support school events. Ensure that all staff provide a courteous, professional
    and efficient service.
  • Management of resources
  • Day to day management of the catering service including the planning and costing of menus, and organising the preparation, cooking and service of meals and refreshments, ensuring that variety and excellent quality is consistently provided.
  • Devise and Implement cost-effective stock control and purchasing procedures to maintain correct storage and stock levels.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with the preparation and monitoring of the catering budget to ensure that agreed expenditure and income targets are met.
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment for which responsible is operational and maintained in a safe working condition through
    a specified programme of regular inspection and planned maintenance.
  • Leadership and management , take personal pride in ensuring that the appearance and smooth running of the catering service contribute to a positive image of the school, and encourage and direct others as appropriate to do so.
  • In liaison with Director of Finance and Operations, recruit, induct, develop, deploy, motivate and appraise staff for which responsible to ensure that they have clear expectations of their roles, and that high performance standards are achieved and
    maintained.
  • Organise duty rotas and daily routines to ensure that the catering service is provided consistently, and in accordance with
    agreed specifications.
  • Health and Safety
  • Ensure that risk assessments are in place for all relevant hazards and working procedures, and ensure that all staff for which
    responsible are familiar with safe working practices and understand the importance of complying with them.
  • Ensure that all food is stored, handled, prepared, processed, cooked and served in accordance with the highest standards of
    food hygiene at all times.
  • Ensure that menus provide for healthy eating, meet recommended nutritional requirements, and make provision for
    special dietary requirements as relevant.
  • Establish a comprehensive cleaning programme to ensure that all catering areas and ancillary rooms, and all equipment and
    machinery are maintained in a clean, hygienic and safe condition throughout and at the end of each working day, with regular
    deep cleaning as required.
  • Communications and marketing

Qualifications:

NVQ2 in Catering and a certificate in food hygiene
