Full Time Farm Poultry Assistant (Henhouse Assistant) required to join a small friendly team working with six flocks of high welfare laying hens. The farm is nestled in the heart of East Anglia and has been thriving for nearly 100 years across four generations and continues to grow. The farm houses 44,000 high welfare, free-range hens, providing a continuous supply of premium eggs to their dedicated, on farm, egg packing facility. The eggs supply local supermarkets and wholesale customers. The packing takes place in a smart and organised, purpose built, British Lion Quality Assured facility which makes for a lovely working environment.
We are looking for someone who can work within the team providing care and welfare to the hens, collecting eggs and maintaining the farm and henhouse to a clean and organised facility.
Experience with poultry would be preferred although appropriate training will be given on site. The ideal candidate will have an empathy for, and understanding of, the management of livestock including good observational skills, excellent record keeping and a commitment to high welfare.
The role would be as a henhouse operative for 3 – 6 months with the scope to rise to Assistant Poultry Manager after that. Based on 12 days on 2 off initially.
Hours –
- 7am – 3.30-4pm – weekdays
- 7am – 1pm – typical Saturday and Sunday hours
Salary:
£28/29,000pa with the view of increasing after probation.
The farm is in a wonderful rural location so the ability to reliably commute is essential.
Principal Tasks will include:
- Day to day management of hens and egg collecting
- Maintaining a clean and tidy work environment
- Assisting with a variety of farm tasks
- Accurate record keeping
The person will be:
- Reliable, punctual with an excellent work ethic
- Conscious of the highest standards of welfare
- Positive, patient with a constant approach and the ability to prioritise their time in a varied, multi-tasking role
- Physically fit as some of the work will involve lifting and being on your feet most of the day
- Happy to work outside at times, in all weathers which will involve hard-graft and working with livestock
- A good team player but also happy to work alone when required
