Professionally run family event yard requires a senior Groom/Rider who can take sole responsibility, but also work well with one other part time person.
The family currently have 4 horses competing from Novice to 3* and a hunter/hack which you will be responsible for. The yard is in a beautiful location 10 miles North of Ware, Hertfordshire. The yard has excellent facilities, including all year round turn out and a large all weather menage. It is also undergoing complete refurbishment.
The heart of this role is each horses wellbeing and all round competition fitness. You will be a crucial support to a young rider who has big dreams and ambition.
The jockey who has competed for GB at junior level is currently in her first year at university which is why a new team member is vital.
The Position
- All yard duties to a high standard
- Working well within a small team
- Clipping and plaiting, trimming etc for the best competition turn out
- Competent and confident riding standard to hack fit horses
- Preparing horses and lorry for travel
- Bandaging for work and stable
- Liaising with vets, farrier, feed suppliers, dentist etc
- Working with trainers and following instructions but able to work using own initiative
- Travelling to events, assisting rider with organisation for the day, times, tack etc
- Being able to spot illness and injury, reporting and dealing with appropriately.
You will be:
- Reliable, enthusiastic with a genuine passion for the sport of eventing
- Cheerful, positive, honest with a ‘can do’ attitude
- An competent, confident rider
- Previous eventing experience would be preferred
- A lorry driver with HGV licence (ideally), but support with the test for the right person will be provided
- Experienced in the highest standard of turn out
- A car driver with own transport
The position is 5 days a week with a generous salary and a range of benefits, including pension scheme and annual Christmas bonus.
A 2.5 bedroom cottage with a garden is available as part of the package. Partner and well behave dog welcome.
