The hours would be 11am- 7pm either 4 or 5 days a week with an early finish on a Friday (a little flexibility can be shown).  A local person would be great who would be happy to do the occasional overnight stay.

We are looking for someone responsible, loyal, fun and energetic who can be flexible and muck in with the family’s activities.

Full Time Senior Gardener required for private garden within a large country Estate located in the most stunning location on the Essex/Suffolk border (AONB).

We are seeking a skilled gardener who will be responsible for maintaining the gardens and grounds of a large 15th century country house. This is a hands on role that requires a strong knowledge of garden maintenance and horticulture. RHS qualifications would be preferred, however a gardener with extensive horticultural knowledge and experience would be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, create and maintain the garden
  • Carry out all lawn care, such as mowing, strimming, edging etc
  • Plant, cultivate and care for flowers, trees, shrubs and other plants
  • Maintain the drive and keep parkland tidy
  • Implement appropriate pest control
  • Operate large garden machinery such as ride on mower, strimmer, hedge cutter etc
  • Train and supervise other staff members as required
  • Maintain accurate records of garden activities

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in garden maintenance or landscape management

Experienced, live in Couple required for impressive, private,  country manor house not far from Norwich, Norfolk.

We are looking for a reliable, experienced and well referenced couple to take care of this beautiful estate which consists of a large 12 bedroom family home and wonderful gardens / woodland.

This would suit a couple who have worked in a similar setting previously and have excellent references to back this.

Housekeeper:

The Role/Responsibilities: 

  • The house is a large, 12 bedroom family home, arranged over three storeys, so the housekeeper will need to be physically fit and capable of managing a house of this size
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the families private home all year round
  • Taking care of general cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming
  • Deep cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and other higher use rooms
  • Making beds and changing linens
  • Managing all household laundry and ironing
  • Restocking supplies such as toiletries and towels
  • Emptying bins
  • Restocking vases with fresh flowers
  • Keeping on top of all cleaning supplies and restocking when needed
  • Responding to family and guest requests in a timely, friendly and professional manner as and when necessary
  • Polishing antiques and silverware
  • Occasional house/pet sitting

The person:

  • Previous experience in hotel or private household essential, with formal training

Estate Gardener

The majority of the estate is parkland/woodland, but it also has a beautiful formal garden consisting of attractive lawns, topiary, mixed beds and borders, roses, wisteria, orchard, lakes, hedges, tree lined driveway, old established trees.

The garden now needs an enthusiastic, committed and passionate person who can focus their attention on bringing it back to its original beauty. Someone with a real flair who takes a pride in their work would be best suited.

The successful person will be very hands on and have extensive horticultural knowledge. They will need to be energetic, ambitious and physically fit.  PA1/PA6 spray certificates and chainsaw licence are essential.  A driving licence is required for the role due to the rural location of the estate.

There is a wide range of machinery including garden tools, tractor and trailer, therefore the ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills are also desirable for the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Orchard and vegetable garden
  • Formal borders-pruning, cutting back plants and shrubs, watering, plant feeding, weeding, digging out, mulching
  • Lawns-mowing, edging, aerating, scarifying, fertilising
  • Hedges- cutting, shaping
  • Driving mini tractor and trailer
  • General maintenance of machinery and coordinating servicing

Groundsperson/Caretaking:

  • Planting (trees, wildflower and border flowers)
  • Driveway paths and yards- tidying, raking, brushing and leaf blowing
  • Weed control using chemical spray from backpack sprayer
  • Chainsaw use and other powered machines
  • Wood splitting manually or by machine to provide the hall with logs
  • Basic maintenance of fences
  • Leaf clearing
The couple will need to be organised, able to plan and prioritise their workload, have good communication skills and the ability to work alongside others and alone.

Accommodation:

The property is adjacent to the main house. It has its own entrance and garden. It consists of two double bedrooms (15 feet x 10.5, and 15.5 feet x 15.5), a very large reception room (21 feet x 15 feet), a kitchen dining room (15.5 feet x 10), and a shower room.

The family have dogs and Peacocks and wish to protect wildlife/birds, so the couple sadly cannot have a cat, but a well behaved dog would be welcome.

This is a full time, permanent, employed role offering a magnificent working / living environment.
